Section 4: Supporting

Working ethically

Working ethically

All RTOs are required to have a staff handbook, setting out the policies and procedures that trainers and assessors must follow when carrying out work for the RTO. The handbook should include a 'code of practice' or some other subsection dealing with ethical considerations and general obligations.

Many of these considerations are backed up by state and federal laws. We've already touched on the laws relating to anti-discrimination and equal opportunity in the chapter headed: The learning environment. So now we will discuss how these laws, and the obligation to act ethically at all times, affect the processes you should follow when conducting assessments. And we will look at the effects of another law - The Privacy Act - on the way information is handled and records are kept.
