Section 2: Designing

Training Packages and qualifications

Functions of an RTO

Before a training organisation is allowed to deliver 'nationally accredited' training and issue qualifications, it must be registered with the state or federal government regulator responsible for that function. To be granted 'Registered Training Organisation' status, the business must pass an audit to show that it has met all the requirements specified in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015.

Once it is operating, the RTO must continue to satisfy these requirements, and report information back to the government authority on a regular basis.

The main purpose of an RTO is to deliver Training Package qualifications, competencies or accredited courses. This means that the statements of attainment or qualifications issued will be nationally recognised. It also means that the training will be eligible for government funding, so long as it meets the requirements of the funding program that it falls under.

Look up your own RTO on the TGA website.

Which Training Packages does its scope of registration cover? (If it a very large RTO covering many Training Packages, name the ones that you are involved in.)

Which states and territories is it registered to deliver in?

What is the RTO's due date for renewal of registration?
